In every home there is at least one loom, the majority of the population being dedicated to the elaboration of high quality clothing and tapestries. The wool is well washed and afterwards dyed with vegetable or chemical based dyes. Later the tapestries are woven over a base of cotton thread on the loom.

Artisanal production formulates a portion of the social, economic and cultural networks in the rural and urban areas of Colombia. This production takes place inside an economy which is mostly domestic and self-generating, and must stay active in order to be passed down from generation to generation. The artisanal products also serve as a basis for normal everyday use for work, home, and symbolic rituals in the communities where they are produced.
